The Science and Technology Directorate at
NREL has an opening for a full-time senior-
level researcher in specialized resource
assessment, geographic information services
(GIS), scientific visualization, data analysis
and presentation, and knowledge discovery
in complex, large-scale scientific data. This
position will include international interactions
for resource assessment of solar, wind,
biomass, and related areas(including water
resources) especially in the Middle East and
Northern African regions. The initial
appointment is for one year, and this position
is renewable.]]></description>
        <responsibilities><![CDATA[The successful candidate will lead,
coordinate, and perform independent and
team research on scientific approaches to
solar, wind, bioenergy, and water resource
assessment, analysis, and determinations for
collaborative programs with international
partners—in particular those in the Middle
East and Northern African (MENA) countries.
This will include computational and satellite
analysis, GIS, and development of techniques
and outputs for data visualization. Work will
encompass working with NREL and other
country scientists to visualize and analyze
large spatial and non-spatial resource data
sets and possible simulations related to
renewable energy and energy efficiency
research and deployment. The candidate will
help lead NREL scientists and programs in a
wide variety of applied areas, including:
renewable energy resources (wind, solar, and
biomass potential over space and time,
modeling potential climate change effects on
MENA resources, modeling and simulation,
data analysis , and geo-statistical analysis
for worldwide solar and wind resource
assessment. Additionally, this position will
contribute to the development of new
resource assessment mapping and atlases for
use in the successful deployment of
renewable energy technologies. This will be
in support of growing priorities to support
renewable energy deployment and used in
these critical areas of the world, and to
contribute to building a funding base for
these programs. It is expected that this
position will also be actively lead the
publishing of results in the scientific
literature, participating in scientific and
technical meetings and reviews, and help
develop scientific and technical relationships
in the resource assessment areas with other
countries of interest to this renewable energy
mission.]]></responsibilities>
